Master in Gestalt Psychotherapy

MQF Level 7

General information and rationale:

The Master in Gestalt Psychotherapy programme, is accredited by the MFHEA, MQF Level 7, part-time programme carried out over a timeframe of 4.5 years. This programme aims to provide the learner with all the necessary knowledge, skills and competences, required to work as a Gestalt psychotherapist. The programme is harmonized with all the standards prescribed by the European Association for Psychotherapy and European Association for Gestalt Therapy. All national requirements for becoming a psychotherapist are met and are in line with the 2018 Psychotherapy Profession Act (Malta). After finishing this programme, the student will be in a position to apply for a warrant in order to begin to practice Gestalt psychotherapy competently and professionally in the best interests of their clients.

Overall learning outcomes:

LEARNING OUTCOMES FOR KNOWLEDGE OBTAINED AT THE END OF THE PROGRAMME

The learner will be able to:

a) Develop communication skills as future therapists learns the skill of contacting the environment through creative adjustments and organismic, self-regulation and its application on the therapeutic relationships with the client and his healing.

LEARNING OUTCOMES FOR SKILLS OBTAINED AT THE END OF THE PROGRAMME

The learner will be able to:

a) Critically assess own learning and identify pathway for further studies;

b) to self-reflect and be aware of the ‘here and now’;

c) assess the need for further continuous professional development as part of practicing the profession of psychotherapist.

General pedagogical procedures:

This programme is delivered by different teaching and learning methods. The basic idea is that students can learn from their own experience through active involvement. The curriculum is presented through the following methods: lectures, presentations, discussions, role-plays, workshops, active work (including personal therapy) in the role of student-client in small groups, live demonstrations, seminars etc. Reflexive and critical thinking, creativity, active involvement/ participation, abilities of synthesis and analysis will be encouraged.

Assessment:

EAGTI-GPTIM finds it very important that every student has the possibility to show/present his/her knowledge and what was learnt experientially. In order for this to reflect the different styles and strengths of students together with areas for further growth, a variety of methods are used including assignments, presentation and answering questions inspired by the student’s written assignment and presentation. The final Exam is based on a Case Study and live demonstration.

General assessment procedures:

Each of the modules within these qualifications have a mixture of assessment procedures. Within Institute each module has at least two point of assessment. The assessment methods employed throughout the whole programme include:

  • Assignments

  • Presentations

  • Clinical Assessment

  • Practicum

  • Logbook

  • Reflective diary

  • Oral examination

Target group:

The Master in Gestalt Psychotherapy is a Level 7 part-time programme, targeted for those persons who would like to become Gestalt psychotherapists and practice Gestalt psychotherapy with clients, patients, families, couples and groups.
